| BookWalker | Buy volumes with Coins | Coin packs about $1.99–$99.99; coin-back campaigns | Priced per volume, not per chapter | $60–120 for a full series in volumes |
The structural point: subscription platforms cluster at $4–10 to finish anything, coin platforms at $20–60. If you know you finish what you start, the model matters more than the catalogue.
Every platform gives something away. What differs is how much, and how long a free-only route takes.

Best overall: MANGA Plus by Shueisha — one cheap month finishes a series and thousands of chapters are free forever. Best value: VIZ Shonen Jump, $3.99 for a 20,000-chapter vault, if you are in the US or Canada. Best free: Comikey. Best for manhwa binges: Manta at $4.99 a month. Biggest free catalogue: WEBTOON. Best mature and BL: Lezhin Comics, at the highest price in the category. Best reader: Omoi. Best budget option: MangaToon, if you can live with the translation quality.
Fair criticism the category earns collectively. Prices are deliberately opaque — most platforms publish coin pack prices but not the cost per episode, which is the number you actually need, and several do not publish it anywhere. Currency expires on Lezhin and WebComics, which is a mechanic designed to punish a break from reading. Unlocks are often rentals: WEBTOON's Ad Pass gives three days, Comikey's Daily Pass 72 hours, and neither labels this prominently. Catalogues move — Kodansha pulled titles from Mangamo in January 2026 and Manta moved subscription titles behind gems in 2024–25, in both cases after readers had subscribed. And services close: four platforms readers still search for shut down or never launched in English, taking purchased content with them.
WEBTOON, by a wide margin, if you count webtoons — it hosts the largest legal library in the format plus an effectively unlimited Canvas section of independent series. For volume-based Japanese manga, BookWalker's 79,000+ volumes is the largest store, and VIZ Shonen Jump's 20,000+ chapter vault is the deepest subscription.
Comikey, where stacked daily passes and ad unlocks can bring the cost to zero over a few weeks. Among paid options, MANGA Plus MAX Standard at $1.99 a month and VIZ Shonen Jump at $3.99 a month finish any series for the price of one month, against $45–60 on the most expensive coin platforms.
Six: MANGA Plus MAX, VIZ Shonen Jump, Manta, Toomics VIP, Omoi and Mangamo. Coin platforms such as WEBTOON, Tapas, Tappytoon, Lezhin and K MANGA sell subscriptions too, but those are coin bundles and discounts, not all-you-can-read access.
MANGA Plus, VIZ Shonen Jump, K MANGA, Comikey, Tappytoon and Omoi all score 10 on our translation axis because they publish official, professionally lettered localisations. MangaToon scores lowest at 4 — much of its manhua catalogue reads as machine-translated.
Yes on every platform here. All except Mangamo have a full web reader alongside their apps, and progress syncs to your account, so you can start on a phone and finish in a desktop browser. Coolmic is web-only and has no app at all.
Most are global. The notable restrictions: VIZ Shonen Jump's vault covers the US, Canada and a few other territories only; K MANGA operates in 13 countries and excludes the UK and EU entirely; and Tappytoon localises its interface only into English, French and German.
